Surat's Short Information



Surat City is a located in the southern part of Gujarat 2115’ N latitude and 72⁰52’ E longitude on the southern bank of River Tapi. Area is 326.515 sq.km. Population is 4,706,429 in 2011. Surat, previously known as Suryapur, is a well-developed commercial city of the Indian state of Gujarat. Now a days Surat like that Nicknames is Diamond City, Textile City, Clean City, Silk City, City of Bridges & Flyovers, Fastest Growing City now a days also known as Mall City.

          Now shows the ranked of Surat City, First of all Surat is now Second cleanest City in India. Surat was ranked the No.1 city in India to earn, invest and live. Surat’s population rank is Sixth in 2012. Surat is at the heart of India's thriving diamond-polishing industry, which in 2005 cut 92% of the world's diamond pieces and earned India $80,00,000 in exports. Surat ranks Fourth fastest growing city in a global study of fastest developing. Surat is Gujarat's Second largest city and India's 8th most populated city.

          In Gujarati proverb “કાશી નું મરણ અને સુરત નું જમણ”. Surat is known as for its Surati cuisine, which includes favorites such as “Ghari”(a type of sweet), Locho, Undhiyu, Surati Khaman, Aloopuri, Kumbhaniya bhajiya, Dairy Don Ice-cream, Patel ni bhaji, VS na Dosa, Ponk vada(in winter) etc.
